POSITION SCOPE:
Responsible for the analysis of moderately complex medical laboratory tests, procedures and analyses to provide data for subsequent results reporting according to the laboratory protocol and procedures. Performs and analyzes quality control measures to ensure accurate clinical data. Performs and documents preventive maintenance on lab instruments and equipment, troubleshooting problems as necessary.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Maintains competency in all areas. Follows all laboratory policies and procedures, including but not limited to; quality controls, precision, accuracy and correlation studies, maintenance and corrective actions, preparing and evaluation of reagents, media and standards, to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of lab.
2) Responsible for all aspects of specimen processing and reporting. Responsible for communication of test results to nursing staff and providers. Must be able to problem solve and develop a plan. Assists in the training of new hires.
3) Consistently acts as a customer service representation for the clinic. Therefore, will seek out appropriate guidance and direction in the performance of responsibilities and duties. Demonstrates good judgment, and reasoning skills. Respectful rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, and visitors as required.
4) Maintains the UroHealth Partners (UHP) approved recall system to follow-up on ordered tests. Ensures assistance and encourages patient compliance of future or current MD orders. Will collaborate with physician regarding test results. Works with physician and nursing staff to provide optimal patient outcomes.
5) Performs clinical actions consistent with established UHP policies and procedures, maintains acceptable standards of patient care in accordance to State and Federal regulations. Will complete clinic duties as outlined by the State’s scope of practice laws.
6) Prepares equipment to efficiently collect blood samples.
7) Maintains the records and templates for Pathology studies. Works closely with Pathologist to provide optimal patient outcomes in a timely manner.
8) Preforms venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients as directed by physician and following medical practice protocols related to safety, infection control, and confidentiality.
9) Must work as a team member and perform actions consistent with established UroHealth Partners policies and procedures including standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance. Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
· High School Diploma or GED Certificate
· Associates Degree Preferred, not required
CERTIFICATIONS
· CPR, required
· ASCP MLT (American Society for Clinical Pathology- Medical Laboratory Technician) Preferred, not required
EXPERIENCE
· Minimum of six months medical office experience
· One-year clinical laboratory experience preferred
