What You’ll Do
- Perform a broad range of laboratory procedures, without direct supervision, including all testing and tasks of the medical technologist/clinical laboratory scientist.
- Receive, accession, and process incoming specimens. Evaluate and solve problems related to the collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis.
- Responsible for quality control procedures and documentation. Recognize deviations from expected results, analyze and correct problems, and document corrective actions as indicated in established laboratory procedures.
- Perform and document preventive maintenance procedures for laboratory equipment. Identify malfunctions or issues with equipment and perform troubleshooting when appropriate.
- Follow SOPs in all applicable areas to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results.
- Verify and report results in a timely manner.
- Adhere to OSHA, CLIA, COLA, and HIPAA regulations.
- Manage reagent and expendables inventory to ensure uninterrupted patient testing and utilize laboratory supplies in a cost-effective manner with minimal waste.
- Participate in proficiency testing programs.
- Overtime Requirement: Laboratory technologists will be required to accommodate overtime as necessary to support laboratory operations.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and training sessions as required by laboratory expansion or new technology.
- Assist in demonstrating laboratory procedures and the proper safe operation of equipment to new staff.
What You Bring to the Role
- Meets CLIA, CMS, and COLA requirements for high-complexity testing:
- Bachelor’s in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology; OR
- Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology; OR
- Equivalent education/training including:
- 60 semester hours including 24 hours in science/MLT coursework
- At least 3 months documented lab training in each tested specialty
- Knowledge of molecular laboratory techniques; RT-qPCR experience preferred
- Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills
- Effective communicator and collaborative team member
- Comfortable working 12-hour shifts, weekends, and holidays
- Able to lift up to 25 pounds
