Jersey Shore University Medical Center (JSUMC- Hackensack Meridian Health) in association with Neuropsychology Rehabilitation Services|Life Span (NRS/LS) is now accepting neuropsychology applications for our two-year residency fellowship program. NRS|LS is one of a few nationally approved sites conforming to the guidelines for specialty training in neuropsychology from the Academy of the American Board of Professional Neuropsychology leading to board certification through AABN-ABN.
JSUMC, according to Healthgrades profile and HMH experts, is listed in 2025 among the 100 best hospitals and in the top 2% of hospitals in the nation.
JSUMC Neuroscience Institute has received the Neuroscience Excellence Award for the past 4 years.
NRS|LS has a longstanding history of over 45 years in hospital, private practice, academia, forensics, and community outreach providing outstanding quality neuropsychological care. For example, we are the only program in the nation that developed and acquired a register trademark for the training and certification for medical adjustment counseling (MAC)®, an alternative form of counseling for patients with brain conditions. Also, we were among the 6 original brain injury rehabilitation programs starting in 1980 during the TBI revolution movement. Furthermore, we obtained New Jersey's first certificate of need for a 40 bed in-patient TBI facility. Our clinical treatment teaching model has set us aside from other conventional programs in the care of TBI patients.
Our program is unique, offering a combination of two tracks for adults and pediatrics: an out-patient practice and in-patient (hospital). The program’s focus is neuropsychological clinical treatment. The clinical out-patient track sequence includes but not limited to: neuropsychological consultation, neuropsychological examination, developmental assessments, data analysis, follow-up examination, MAC (patient and family), cognitive rehabilitation, biofeedback, and medical management. The program is variably designed pending the interests and goals of each applicant. In-patient track includes exposure to neurosurgery, neurology, cardiology, stroke, movement disorder, ICU, PICU, rehabilitation, psychiatry/clinical psychology, and general behavioral health. Out-patient/in-patient grand rounds and conferences are accessible to the postdoctoral fellows. The pediatric program evaluates and treats a variety of conditions, i.e. ADHD, LD, Autism, TBI, Epilepsy, Genetic conditions, etc. Extensive face to face supervision is provided with rotation through different supervisors on staff who specialize in different areas of clinical neuropsychology, providing fellows with the ability to learn different styles and see a broad range of patients.
Our program meets the collective standards of the APA, NAN, AABN-ABN, and the criteria regarding competency-based training of the Houston and Minnesota conferences.
Applicant requirements are completion of an APA approved internship or equivalent in neuropsychology, clinical, or counseling. Our generous comprehensive salary, benefits, application package is among the highest in the nation. Collectively between our hospital and private practice tracks, the applicant will have a unique opportunity, different from other conventional programs, preparing you for an exciting and rewarding future in neuropsychology.
