The Medical Technologist/Clinical Lab Scientist:
1. Performs moderate and/or highly complex analytic processes without direct supervision. Uses routine and specialized automated and non-automated laboratory procedures and/or techniques for which qualified, trained, and demonstrates competency according to established lab section operating procedures including Toxicology, Chemistry and Molecular RT-PCR assays.
2. Ensures operation of all laboratory analytical equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
3. Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies. Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
4. Provides information to internal and external clients by answering questions and requests.
5. Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other safety policies and protocol
6. Identifies the technical, instrumental, and/or physiologic causes of unexpected test results and assists in developing corrective action plans.
7. Assist with writing and reviewing of Standard Operating Procedures.
8. Complete proficiency testing
9. Provides technical information and/or instruction to clients, new employees, medical students, residents, peers, and the public as requested and where appropriate.
10. Maintains open and effective communication with personnel within the work team, and with members of other teams throughout the laboratory.
11. Assist Technical Supervisor and Medical Director with the review and development of quality control metrics.
12. This position requires repetitive motions for long lengths of time
13. This position requires standing and sitting for long periods of time.

CLIA Qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or related fields and 1 year of clinical experience.
OR:
- At least 60 semester hours from an
accredited institution; must include
1. 24 semester hours of MLT courses;
OR
2. 24 semester hours of science courses that include: a. 6 semester hours of chemistry; and b. 6 semester hours of biology; and c. 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or MLT in any combination
Experience Component
1. Completion of an approved or
accredited clinical laboratory
training program; or
2. At least 3 months documented
laboratory training in each
specialty in which the individual
performs high complexity testing
Preferred:
- Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or related fields and 2 years of clinical experience performing toxicology, chemistry and/or molecular assay testing
- Completion of internship program from an approved school of Medical Technology or school of Clinical Laboratory Science.
- ASCP certified, ASCP eligible, or equivalent.
