The role of this bioinformatics research assistant will be to support the group’s research into the genomic causes, and prediction, of childhood cancer. Working closely with a postdoctoral researcher, the bioinformatics research assistant will contribute to the design, execution and interpretation of machine learning analyses to identify molecular markers of elevated childhood cancer risk. The bioinformatics research assistant will assist in the development and validation of emerging and novel predictive tools that leverage genomic features from large cohorts of paediatric cancers to identify families with inherited cancer predisposition syndromes. The role also includes working with different research and clinical staff to ensure rapid and reliable delivery of genomic results.
To succeed you will have…
- BSc, BEng or MSc in bioinformatics, biology, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related field
- Strong expertise in at least one of bioinformatics, software engineering, or statistics, with fluency in at least one scripting language (eg R, Python, bash), and familiarity with command line use of POSIX systems (eg Linux).
- Experience in data analysis and strong familiarity with statistical reasoning
