Position: Clinical Laboratory Technologist / Lab Supervisor

Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant Technologist, based in lower Manhattan.
In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing a wide variety of laboratory services for MLM Laboratory. Duties include and are not limited to specimen preparation for processing. All laboratory supplies maintenance, storage, and disposal will be handled for all lab areas. Responsible to maintain all common laboratory equipment, such as but not limited to centrifuge, computers and monitors. Responsible for the preparation of reagents, buffers, cell culture media as well as microbiological media. Qualified candidates will have a high regard for accuracy and attention to detail relative to laboratory functions.
Main Job Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all SOPs, policies, and procedures
- Periodically perform secondary quality reviews.
- Initiate quality control measures and monitor the quality of work and adherence to laboratory standards
- Complete special projects as requested, e.g., surveys, statistical reports, studies, research
- Review laboratory results and reports by analyzing statistical data, quality control data, and other data to ensure timeliness and accuracy of reporting
- Evaluate problems with laboratory equipment and order repairs
- Understand and follow all safety requirements; correct unsafe work habits and practices and bring to the attention of the Safety Team any practice or condition that may be detrimental to the safety and health of any employee; cooperate in all safety or health-related programs and assist in solving safety and health problems
- Understand and maintain compliance procedures, including HIPAA compliance
- Promptly and courteously assist other departments as needed
- Communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with all levels of staff
- Reflect good judgment always when determining what action to take in resolving problems; maintain good composure while working under pressure
- Demonstrate a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining the confidentiality
- Demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills that foster a positive working environment
- Prepare samples for processing in the processing while adhering to Good Laboratory Practice.
- Report lab results to NYS as necessary and required by law.
- Prepare reagents for daily laboratory use.
- Maintain up to date inventory for frequently used lab supplies.
- Leave neat work area following completion of daily activities.
- Maintain log-book and report damaged equipment according to established criteria.
- Work effectively in designated weekly time schedule to complete substantial work flow.
- Ordering lab supplies
- Maintain glassware and all laboratory equipment according to instructions.
- Adhere to need for Personal Protective Equipment at all time while in the laboratory.
Preferred Qualifications: Must communicate in English and be able to follow directions and instructions carefully. The successful candidate should be responsible, have a good work ethic, demonstrate teamwork and cooperate with co-workers. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
Preference is given to candidates with some or all of the following:
- Ability to interpret and report semen analysis
- EMR experience (eCW preferred)
- Experience working on Seimens Advair Centaur
- Experience with Labdaq or other similar LIS
- Experience with Cepheid Genxpert
- Experience with immunoassays and STD testing / BD Affirm
- Molecular experience / Thermo Fischer RTPCR
Educational/Experience Requirements:
· Minimum of 1-3 years of molecular laboratory experience
Knowledge of:
· Principles and techniques of clinical and pathology molecular laboratory testing procedures (i.e. DNA/RNA extraction, DNA/RNA library preparation; NGS, Target amplification, Quantitative PCR/rtPCR, and other molecular techniques).
· Human genetics, PCR, NGS
· Medical terminology, communicable disease, and environmental health issues knowledge
· Laboratory regulations, including quality control of reagents, and equipment, laboratory safety, laboratory documentation requirements, sterilization requirements, and laboratory equipment.
· Applicable testing techniques.
Critical Skills:
· Experience in a molecular laboratory setting
· Experience with some genetics or molecular biology benchwork techniques including DNA/RNA extraction, Quality Control, Library Preparation; Quantitative Real-time PCR; and additional methods surrounding Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
· Experience with CLIA/CAP laboratory and/or genetic company is highly preferred.
· Knowledge of HIPAA and laboratory SOPs, regulatory, and safety procedures.
· Attention to detail and accuracy is crucial for the position.
· Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment.
Additional Skills:
· Skill in using computers for Laboratory Information Management System testing, and record-keeping functions.
· Ability to communicate appropriately, both orally and written.
· Ability to collaborate effectively with health care teams.
· Ability to recognize and resolve hazardous conditions.
· Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Ability to demonstrate the full range of motion, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination in the use of equipment and instruments.
· Ability to lift 25 lbs.
