Job Summary:
We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to perform and report moderate to highly complex laboratory testing within a clinical laboratory environment. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to accuracy, quality, and patient care.
Minimum Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or a Basic Science
- No experience required (new grads are welcome)
Preferred Qualifications:
-Specialty certification
- Blood Bank experience in a clinical laboratory setting
Certifications (Required)
- ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathology)
- AMT (American Medical Technologists)
- ABHI (American Board of Histocompatibility or Immunogenetics)
Key Responsibilities:
-Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures accurately and recognize deviations from expected results
- Review and verify lab data; report patient results with complete documentation
- Perform, record, and evaluate quality control (QC) per procedure (including expiration checks and QC documentation)
- Perform and document instrument/equipment maintenance as assigned
- Identify equipment malfunctions and troubleshoot according to protocol
- Recognize variables that may affect test results and take appropriate corrective action
- Work independently within established guidelines; apply problem-solving skills and meet deadlines
- Review test procedures and recommend updates as needed
- Participate in evaluation/validation of new tests or instruments when assigned
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs; receive and unpack delivered supplies
- Assist with training and instruction of employees and students; may support competency assessments
- Communicate key information to staff, leadership, medical directors, and other departments
- Support division testing needs as assigned
- Maintain compliance with internal controls, reporting structure, and all safety policies
- Ability to cover other shifts as needed to support patient care
Work Schedule:
- Night Shift: 8 on / 6 off (rotating weekends and holidays)
- Day and Evening Shifts: schedules to be discussed during the interview process
