Avantic Medical Laboratory located in Edison, NJ is looking for an experienced Microbiology / Molecular Microbiologist
Clinical Microbiology Technical Skills
- Proficient in Gram stain preparation, interpretation, and microscopic organism identification
- Experience with manual and automated microbial identification methods
- Skilled in culture setup, organism isolation, and identification from clinical specimens
- Experience performing:
- Aerobic and anaerobic cultures
- Fungal and mycobacterial testing workflows
- Antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST)
- Ability to recognize clinically significant organisms, contamination, and mixed cultures
Molecular Diagnostics Skills Experience performing molecular diagnostic testing in a clinical laboratory setting
- Hands-on experience with:
- PCR and Real-Time PCR methodologies
- Nucleic acid extraction and amplification techniques
- Multiplex molecular panels for infectious diseases
- Viral load or pathogen detection assays
- Experience with molecular platforms such as:
- BD MAX
- QuantStudio
- Roche Cobas molecular systems
- Knowledge of contamination prevention practices and molecular workflow separation
- Understanding of molecular result interpretation and troubleshooting assay performance
Instrumentation & Automation Experience
- Experience operating automated microbiology systems including:
- MicroScan
- MALDI-TOF microbial identification platforms
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic result reporting
- Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation and workflow issues
Standards, Quality & Regulatory Knowledge
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) standards and guidelines
- Experience interpreting CLSI antimicrobial susceptibility breakpoints
- Working knowledge of CLIA and CAP regulatory requirements
- Experience with:
- Quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA)
- Validation and verification of microbiology and molecular assays
- Proficiency testing programs
- SOP development and compliance
- Biosafety and infection prevention practices
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related life science discipline (Master’s preferred)
- Minimum five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience in microbiology and/or molecular diagnostics
- Experience in hospital, or reference laboratory environments
- ASCP certification preferred (MLS, MLT, MB, or SM)
