Job Summary
An Optical Lab Technician is responsible for manufacturing, assembling, and repairing prescription eyewear while ensuring accuracy, quality control, and timely delivery. This role supports lab operations, customer service, and order fulfillment.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and process optical prescriptions accurately
- Cut, edge, shape, and mount lenses into frames
- Inspect finished eyewear for accuracy, alignment, and quality
- Perform adjustments and repairs on eyeglasses
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate lab equipment
- Manage workflow to meet production deadlines
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab environment
- Track inventory of lenses, frames, and supplies
- Communicate order issues or clarifications with staff
Customer Service & Fulfillment
- Assist customers with frame selection, adjustments, and minor repairs
- Provide order status updates and address questions or concerns
- Support front-of-house operations as needed
- Prepare, verify, and package orders for shipment
- Generate shipping labels, coordinate carriers, and track deliveries
- Handle returns, exchanges, and shipping issues
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (optical training preferred)
- Optical lab or manufacturing experience is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and mechanical aptitude
- Ability to read prescriptions and measurements
- Basic computer skills and strong organizational abilities
Physical & Work Environment
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs
- Manual dexterity and attention to detail required
- Fast-paced optical lab environment with machinery, light noise, and dust
Preferred Qualifications
- ABO certification
- Experience with digital/freeform lenses or edging systems
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to roles within the optical lab and retail environment
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
