Job Title: High School Marine Science Teacher
Position Overview:
Pinecrest Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable High School Marine Science Teacher. The ideal candidate is passionate about oceanography, environmental science, and hands-on learning, with a commitment to inspiring students through engaging classroom and laboratory experiences. This teacher will deliver standards-aligned instruction while fostering curiosity, scientific inquiry, and real-world application of marine science concepts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver high school marine science instruction aligned to Florida’s B.E.S.T. Standards
- Design and implement hands-on laboratory experiments, field investigations, and interactive activities related to oceanography, ecosystems, and environmental science
- Develop lessons that promote critical thinking, data analysis, and problem-solving skills
- Use assessment data to inform instruction and differentiate learning for diverse students
- Maintain a safe, structured, and engaging classroom and lab environment
- Integrate technology, simulations, and project-based learning to enhance understanding
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress
- Collaborate with colleagues during Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to improve instructional practices
- Maintain accurate records and comply with all school, district, and state requirements
- Participate in school-wide initiatives, professional development, and extracurricular activities
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field
- Valid Florida Teaching Certificate (or eligibility) in Science (Grades 6–12)
- Strong experience with laboratory instruction and marine science content
- Knowledge of Florida standards and state assessment expectations
- Excellent classroom management and organizational skills
- Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching high school marine science, environmental science, or oceanography
- ESOL endorsement or Reading Endorsement
- Experience with fieldwork, inquiry-based instruction, and STEM integration
