At Phytest (www.phytest.com), we’re building a next-generation molecular diagnostics laboratory designed to deliver accurate, scalable, and clinically meaningful genomic testing. Our work supports physicians with reliable laboratory services that help translate complex molecular data into better patient care.
We’re looking for a Molecular Technologist to join our new, high-complexity laboratory in Atlanta. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on laboratory work, values precision and quality, and wants to contribute to a growing molecular and next-generation sequencing environment. You’ll work closely with a collaborative laboratory team supporting genomic workflows from sample receiving through sequencing and reporting.
If you’re energized by learning, problem-solving, and helping build modern laboratory operations with high clinical standards, you’ll thrive here.
Why this role matters
High-quality molecular testing depends on disciplined laboratory operations, reliable workflows, and attention to detail at every step of the process. This role exists to ensure patient samples are handled accurately, testing is performed consistently, and laboratory systems continue operating at the highest standards of quality and compliance.
What you’ll own
Molecular laboratory testing & workflows
Perform molecular laboratory techniques including sample receiving, DNA/RNA extraction, library preparation, quality control, whole genome sequencing workflows, data analysis support, and reporting activities within a high-complexity molecular laboratory.
Laboratory operations & instrumentation
Operate laboratory instruments and equipment competently and safely. Perform routine instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, quality checks, and documentation to support reliable laboratory operations.
Quality control & compliance
Prepare, examine, and quality-control laboratory reagents and materials. Participate in proficiency testing and ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, and other regulatory and safety standards. Maintain accurate records and an organized workspace.
Data entry & laboratory systems
Perform data entry into the laboratory information system (LIS) to accurately capture patient and testing information. Support workflow tracking and laboratory documentation requirements.
Inventory & operational support
Assist with ordering, receiving, and managing laboratory inventory and supplies to ensure uninterrupted testing operations.
Cross-training & workflow improvement
Maintain competency across multiple laboratory benches and workflows. Support the evaluation, development, and implementation of new laboratory techniques, instrumentation, procedures, and testing offerings. Assist with SOP updates and workflow improvements as laboratory needs evolve.
Team communication & collaboration
Communicate clearly and professionally across shifts and with laboratory leadership, clinicians, and team members. Work collaboratively to troubleshoot issues, support laboratory goals, and maintain efficient daily operations.
You may be a great fit if you have
A BS in Science or a related field or equivalent experience. MLS certification from ASCP or equivalent, with MB certification preferred. Three to five years of Medical Laboratory Scientist experience within a molecular laboratory environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to adapt quickly and learn new techniques and technologies.
Comfort working both independently and within a team environment. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and laboratory quality standards. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience communicating with clinical stakeholders is preferred.
Physical & work requirements
Ability to work assigned shifts and maintain focus in a fast-paced laboratory environment. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, wear required PPE, and lift or carry items up to 20 pounds. Ability to perform detailed laboratory work requiring dexterity and sustained concentration.
