The Special Procedures Technologist performs invasive diagnostic and interventional procedures and is responsible for the operation and quality assurance of film processing, patient monitoring and the x-ray equipment. Participates in the daily activities of the section by assisting as a scrub, float, and imaging technologist.
Provides and insures quality care for patients as indicated by their clinical condition. Meets the human needs of high-risk interventional angiography patients by explaining, educating and reassuring the patients throughout the procedures. During Invasive Angiographic procedures, performs general duties such as the care of IVs, suction, oxygen, monitoring vital signs and EKG and pressure tracings. Assists patients who experience adverse reactions. Serves as liaison between the floor nurse, ward secretary and attending physicians as to orders, procedures, scheduling, status of procedures, and other related questions or concerns.
Assists in emergency situations by initiating and/or assisting in procedures described by hospital policy including cardiopulmonary resuscitation and maintaining proper documentation of emergency situations. Maintains adequate levels of medical care supplies received from the Pharmacy, Central Supply, Storeroom and vendors and insures no outdated items. Participates in infection control procedures for Special Procedures and the hospital. Maintains information pertaining to hospital performance improvement programs and participates in the ongoing quality control and preventive maintenance programs related to the Special Procedures Section. Orientates new employees as to the duties and responsibilities in the Special Procedures Section.
