BASIC FUNCTION

Under general supervision of the Lab Manager this position will perform real time PCR tests and maintains appropriate records and reports. Performs in accordance with established procedures, under general supervision. Currently the lab only offers a Wound PCR Panel and a Respiratory PCR Panel.

RELATIONSHIP

Reports directly to the Lab Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Performs examinations in the field of molecular diagnostics using Real Time PCR on the Thermo Fisher Quantstudio analyzer for the purpose of assisting in the detection, definition, and control of communicable disease.
Performs quality control procedures for each test performed Analyzes and interprets laboratory data and keeps records under required standards.
Uses computer to record results and issue lab results to medical providers.
Maintains laboratory equipment.
Perform other related duties as necessary.

EDUCATION AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

· Bachelors Degree in a related field required. Masters Level Degree in a related field preferred.

· At least two (2) years experience within medical laboratories to include knowledge of molecular diagnostics.

· Handle infectious agents safely.

· Utilize proper safety precautions

· Maintain adequate quality control

· Read and interpret Material Safety Data Sheets to ensure safety of all personnel.

· Able to multi-task, prioritize and manage time efficiently

· Able to work independently or as an active member of a team

· Good interpersonal skills and communication

· Excellent computer skills, LIS experience required

· Must be comfortable working with hazardous materials and must comply with all health and safety regulations
