Position description
We are seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatics Scientist to join our team. Genscience is focused on providing integrated genetic and genomic tools and services with differentiated data and analytical capabilities, creative solutions, and decision-driving insights for drug discovery and development. We developed world-class genetic and genomic capabilities to provide biotechnology companies ranging from startups to biotech investors to pharmaceutical giants, critical insights to discovery and understand the causal relationship between genes and disease. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, is comfortable working with large-scale genomic datasets, and is fluent in R and Linux for data processing and workflows. Experience with genome-wide association studies (GWAS), cloud-based computation (AWS), and biological ontologies is highly desirable.
Job title and grade are commensurate with experience. Expected Base Salary Range- $80,000-$100,000
Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and optimize bioinformatics pipelines using R, Linux, and AWS/HPC environments
- Integrate, curate, and analyze genetic studies (e.g., GWAS, RVAS, eQTL)
- Use and extend biological ontologies to support data harmonization and annotation mappings
- Deploy, scale, and manage computational workflows on AWS/HPC
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate scientific questions into computational approaches
- Document pipelines, results, and methods in a clear, reproducible manner
- Collaborate with data engineers & scientists to establish data architectures and ETL
- Contribute to drug discovery research projects
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genetics, Computer Science, or a related field; or equivalent industry experience
- Strong proficiency in R
- Proficiency in command line scripting and Linux-based environments
- Demonstrated experience working with genetic studies or other genomic datasets
- Ability to work remotely with most real-time collaboration on U.S. eastern time.
- Flexibility to participate in at least six in-person meetings each year
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. in bioinformatics, computational biology, genetics, computer science, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience
- Experience working with cloud-based bioinformatics pipelines (e.g., AWS) and pipelining tools (e.g., Nextflow, Snakemake)
- Experience working with large-scale genomic data
- Knowledge & experience using biomedical/biological ontologies (e.g., MONDO, HPO, EFO)
- Experience collaborating with a team using version control (Git)
- Familiarity with SQL, Python, and/or Spark
